Homemade Sugar Free BBQ Sauce Recipe

Diabetes unfortunately is on the rise. According to the American Diabetes Association there are nearly 30 million Americans (close to 10% of the population), that have diabetes. Just as alarming is its estimated that almost 30% of that number are undiagnosed.

Thankfully you can still enjoy your BBQ with this great sugar free BBQ sauce recipe!

 

 

Makes: About 4 cups
Ingredients:

1 15 oz can of tomato sauceHomemade Sugar Free BBQ Sauce Recipe
1 12 oz can of tomato paste
1 cup of white vinegar (apple cider or red wine vinegar can also be used)
1 cup of unsweetened applesauce
1 cup Splenda®
1/3 cup of molasses (optional but recommended for flavor)
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp  liquid smoke
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp  paprika (preferably smoked)
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients in a large sauce pot. Watch closely and simmer about 15 minutes until thickened. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Total time: 25 minutes

Keep in mind this homemade sugar free BBQ sauce recipe has no added sugar. Natural sugars from the tomato and applesauce will be present. Including the optional molasses will add some sugars to the recipe.
