Halo BBQ is excited to announce that we will be setting the Pit up at the Western Kountry Klub Historic Dance Hall every 1st and 3rd Saturday and serving up our Chopped Brisket Sandwiches, Homemade Pinto Beans and Potato Salad.
Come on out and enjoy some good ol country music, BBQ and dancing!
The Western Kountry Klub was originally a skating rink, built in the late 50′s early 60′s. In 1972, Wanda Hendrick bought the building and converted it into a dance hall. It was the biggest night spot in the area at the time and today is the oldest known Honky-Tonk in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area that doesn’t serve alcohol.
In 1992, George Strait was looking for a place to shoot some scenes for his movie “Pure Country”. The Western Kountry Klub fit what he was looking for. All of the dance scenes in the movie were shot here. Today, 18 years later, people still come by and ask if the movie was really filmed here. But George Strait isn’t the only famous face to grace the dance floor, Country music star David Ball also filmed a video at the Klub. His video for “When The Thought of You Catches up with me” was filmed here. Besides Strait and Ball, Budweiser filmed a commercial at the Klub and during the height of it’s popularity, and the cast and crew of “Walker, Texas Ranger” ate at the Klub while filming scenes for the series nearby.
Nostalgic memorabilia grace the walls of the Klub, and anyone who visits is bound to stare and be transported back in time. So, if you’re interested in dancing and/or listening to great live country music, The Western Kountry Klub is for you.
